Observation is very important for children in any Daycare. We need to know at all times their needs and make sure they are safe.
Here, we try to build a foundation for infants. This will help them grow into the next stage of their life.
It’s important to gain their trust and respect. Trust can come from simply changing a diaper, talking to the baby, rocking, and soothing the baby when not feeling well. We make sure infants get held when needed. Their floor time can start at an early age.
We may do many different things with them. We lay a baby down on their back and roll colored little balls over as we are talking to them, we may lay beside them and read them a story. When babies are about 3 months old we put a baby in a baby chair and include the baby during circle time and story time. They are amazed. Their eyes are wide open just listening to us sing and talk.
A baby is very smart, we are their providers and we can help move them forward for an early start in life. This will make them very comfortable around their surroundings.
Age 1- Toddlers Program
Ages 1-toddlers Program
Observation, free play, when children are playing, we make sure they are safe and encourage them to play with different toys and other children.
Age appropriate toys, all toys are age appropriate, clean and checked for damage.
Introduce letters, numbers, shapes and colors. This takes time but we are consistent. Children at ages 1-2 can learn to speak short sentences. Children are excited to be with other children who are learning and they pick up very quickly. We have children at 2 years old speaking complete sentences, it’s amazing! We have experienced this here.
Large motor skills, following directions like, jumping, marching, dancing.
Small motor skills, baby and toddler puzzles, placing small toys into small containers and many other small motor activities.
Story time, we bring everyone into story time. The babies are given their own books we do this so they can relate to story time and become interested in getting their own books at play.
Circle time, we also bring all children into the activity.
Ages 3-4
Ages 3 and 4 Program
This is the age we start Pre-School. In my experience learning to print can be a struggle, so I start off with tracing. Tracing is also great for their small motor skills and eye hand coordination. We trace everything from large animals to small stems on flowers, just an example. This also gives them an opportunity to learn to shade when coloring and staying inside the lines. We have been very successful with this, and they become little artist while learning to print.
Here are some of the activities we do with this age group:
Yoga for Toddlers
Tai Chi, Relaxation for young children, this is so cool. You have them lay down and close their eyes. We then read a short story, maybe one or two paragraphs about maybe the beach. When they open their eyes we ask them questions of what they saw, colors, who was there all from the story I told. Then there are exercises we do.
Here are some activities we do:
painting puppet show coloring crafts
puzzles kitchen set free play play dough
blocks tracing books baby dolls
We also have outside activities, playset, play house, toddler swing and toys in the shed. We like to have picnics when the weather permits.
Kindergarten Program
Kindergarten Program
By this time we have shown and done so many things for the children going off to Kindergarten. They can print, recognize and read up to 35 words. They know some math, limited adding and subtracting. We have seen how they are very into carrying books while playing. I have them review their words and continue to print.
We have many discussions about going to school. How they have to get up, dress themselves and get ready for school. How they are going to meet new friends and all about listening. We have a program we started about bullying. This should be taught at an early age at least by 4 years old. We feel this is an important lesson prior to Kindergarten. It is very important for children to build their confidence. We hope this prepares them for happiness and success in their future.
